Subject: NWS Burlington - Long Duration Snow Event "Adding Up" through Early Next Week

Dear Emergency Managers & others,

*** The information in this email pertains to the following areas only:***
- All of Vermont EXCEPT Bennington & Windham Counties
- New York Counties of: Clinton, Essex, Franklin, St Lawrence

This Weekend and Early Next Week will feature a long duration moderate snow event. The long duration of this event will likely require planning and use of resources for public works and transportation departments over an extended period of time.

Current Thinking/Expectations: Periodic Light Snow is likely to develop across VT/NY late Saturday and continue through Monday evening. Sunday into Monday looks to be the steadier and heavier snowfall day across VT and NY.

There is the small possibility of snow mixing with sleet, freezing rain/freezing drizzle at times in southern VT and the St. Lawrence River Valley on Sunday night into Monday.

Snowfall amounts: Heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday through Monday with a general 6 to 12 inches. Some additional light snowfall of Dusting to a few inches possible late Saturday-Saturday night.

Maximum snowfall rates will be 0.5 to 1 inch per hour at times Sunday and Monday with reduced visibilities.

Impacts: No power issues expected. Hazardous road travel due to snow covered roads. The long duration of this event will likely require planning and use of resources for public works and transportation departments over an extended period of time.

Caution - There is still uncertainty on the exact amounts and axis of heaviest snowfall. Therefore, we urge you to closely monitor forecasts through the weekend on this event.

Regards,

NWS Burlington
NOTE: I think the "...pertains to the following areas only... New York Counties of: Clinton, Essex, Franklin, St Lawrence" is boilerplate it appears in all messages. The South Central/Southeast Adks are forecast out out the Albany office but I'm not getting the briefing updates from Albany. This is a widespread wx situation because the forecast for the western side of the Adks is more or less the same.
