We were on it Saturday nite on way back home from Ohio.
NEW HOLES are beginning to open up in addition to Panther Mtn. stream is cutting across the main trail on and off the lake.
One monster hole is in the middle on the main trail 1/2 way down the lake and a new one almost swallowed me that nite.
With this warm up this week, its going to be real tricky to get on and off at the east end. (Panther Mtn stream) Plus those open muds holes are going to get bigger. Its tricky now to get by them. There is no bottom to that muck.
There is probably only 2 feet of water but 2 feet of muck. I was up to my gonads once a couple of years back at the west end and its cold. My wife won't go back on it this year after watching me disappear in that hole Saturday nite. My momentum carried me thru and up the far side. Lucky there was no ice lip to jam a ski under.
All I can Say its going to be DANGEROUS with this warm up especially at nite.
Ron

Evergreen didn't use to be such a big problem. Maybe next year someone (Ron?) can make sure hte dam is opened and closed at the right time so we get good ice.

Too bad there isn't a trail around it.

There is a trail around it. From the west you turn right at the registration kiosk about a mile from Evergreen cross Rt 8 then left at the nest intersection across Rt 8 again bringing you into the back yard of the Piseco Lake Lodge.
The owner doesn't live in the Park so he forgets to close the dam after it was opened during all the rain around Christmas week.
He told me to try to close it once but it was froze. He had to use a torch to get the ice out of the channel that the gate slides into.
I'm only there on the week ends and by this time its already gone.

Yes, that is the Alder Brook Trail. It is a nice trail but a long way around.

I have also just ridden up the G Lake road then along Rt. 8. There are only a couple of streams/culverts you have to go around.
